Lemon Market & market Infrastructure
Graceland is an active player in the development of market infrastructure and markets for lemon. We will train farmers on good fruit harvesting and handling techniques at farm level. We have set up aggregation centers at each target county for sorting and grading before moving the produce to local market, export market or processing for value addition.
The company will sign marketing contracts with farmers at the time of buying seedlings to safeguard our investment in our farmers. The marketing contracts signed with farmers will help Graceland in market planning, which would improve farmer returns and lower post-harvest losses (PHL).
We are developing our pathway to ensure we are licensed as exporters of lemon by the time we have significant quantities of quality lemon fruit in the local market. We will sign contracts with wholesale markets, retain chains, and agents for exportation of lemon or value-added products. We will address supply shortfalls by developing our aggregation capacity locally and regionally to sustain export demand for lemon. We are working closely with key stakeholders and government agencies to develop the
“#Made in Kenya” lemon brand. In the short and medium term, the company will offer market solutions for lemon fruit before it phases it out and only undertakes processing and value addition.
